Tottenham faces competition from Manchester United for Serie A star.

Tottenham Hotspur is dealing with challenges after the recent dismissal of Thomas Frank. He stepped down following a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, and the club is now looking to appoint Igor Tudor as interim manager.

Despite the managerial changes, club officials are actively planning for the future and reshaping the squad. They quickly signed Conor Gallagher after discovering Rodrigo Bentancur’s long-term hamstring injury last month, but still need more players in midfield.

Reports indicate that Spurs were interested in signing Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay during the January transfer window. However, Napoli did not allow him to leave, as he is considered a key player for them.

Manchester United targeting Scott McTominay reunion

Scott McTominay has developed from a decent midfielder at Manchester United to one of the top-performing midfielders since joining Napoli in 2024. He won Serie A’s ‘MVP’ award last season and contributed significantly to Napoli’s Scudetto win, scoring 12 goals during the 2024/25 season and becoming a fan favorite.

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Manchester United is interested in reuniting with McTominay and is leading the pursuit for a potential summer transfer. Although he is satisfied at Napoli, he has an interest in returning to his childhood club. Napoli may require at least €80 million to consider selling him this summer.

Manchester United’s pursuit of McTominay poses a challenge for Spurs. He fits the profile Tottenham needs in midfield: athletic, energetic, and capable of driving play forward. Additionally, his experience in the Premier League would mitigate potential adaptation issues.

Given his talent and experience, McTominay would be an excellent addition for Tottenham. However, with Manchester United involved, he may choose to return to his original club if he leaves Napoli. Furthermore, Spurs may be reluctant to spend around €80 million on a player who will be nearly 30 during the 2026/27 season.

In reality, Tottenham needs to focus on their current situation rather than future transfers. The new manager, Tudor, must work effectively to help the team finish the season strongly after a challenging campaign.
