Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United may have ended over a year ago, but its impact is still noticeable at Old Trafford.
During his two-year, three-month tenure, United won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, but faced significant challenges.
The team finished 8th in the Premier League in ten Hag’s final full season, leading to a disappointing 15th place the next season.
As a result, United lost European competition spots, with the FA Cup victory serving as the only way they qualified for the Europa League the following year.
Moreover, the club invested about £600 million on new players, many of whom did not perform well.
According to The Sun, United is now seeking to recover some of that investment and is open to offers for five of ten Hag’s signings this summer.
The players on the transfer list include Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, Andre Onana, and Mason Mount.
Together, they cost the club £249.8 million, but it’s unlikely United will recoup that full amount.
Hojlund is likely to be sold, as there is a mandatory buy clause in his loan deal with Napoli if they qualify for the Champions League.
Napoli is satisfied with his performances and may want to keep him, so United expects to recover £38 million of the £64 million they paid for him, a positive outcome given his previous 21-game goalless streak.
Zirkzee was purchased from Bologna for £36.5 million in 2024 and remains an attractive option in Serie A, attracting interest from clubs like Juventus.
Manuel Ugarte, signed for £50.5 million from PSG during the same window, has seen minimal interest, struggling to impress during his time at the club.
Next is Andre Onana, who was expected to join Trabzonspor permanently but is now less likely to leave as United attempts to recover the £43.8 million spent on him.
Mason Mount has had a mixed time at Old Trafford due to injuries since his £55 million move from Chelsea, despite some strong performances.
It looks challenging for United to retrieve even half of the £249.8 million spent on these players. With Casemiro and Jadon Sancho also set to leave for free, any transfer fee is crucial.
