Manchester United is aiming for improvement under Michael Carrick, who is currently managing the team until the summer. Carrick has the players performing well, despite a recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle United marking his only defeat since taking over from Ruben Amorim.

Things are looking better with Carrick compared to the tough 14-month period under Amorim. However, the next permanent manager will want to bring in new players.

Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United is reportedly on the radar of United’s management as they prepare for Casemiro’s potential exit. After previous transfer successes and failures, the club is now focusing on players who have proven themselves in the Premier League.

Recent signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo highlight this strategy’s effectiveness—if Tonali moves from Newcastle to United, he would fit into this trend.

The club is also looking to add another left winger, especially if they secure Champions League participation next season.

In defense, Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven has been linked with a move to United.

The Daily Mail reports that United has been made aware of the Dutch player’s potential availability, especially in light of Tottenham’s struggles. Journalist Simon Jones noted, “Rumors suggest he may leave this summer as Manchester United and Liverpool are interested.”

Discussions about a new contract with Van de Ven and Tottenham are currently on hold, which may increase the likelihood of his departure if the team faces relegation.

Obtaining Van de Ven would require a significant financial commitment, and United would need to compete with Liverpool for his signature. Jones stated that while he has immense talent, his decision-making can be inconsistent. Tottenham is expected to demand a large fee for his transfer, indicating that he may be on his way out.

Currently, Tottenham is just one point above the relegation zone, making the possibility of dropping to the Championship a real concern, which could lead to player departures.

Van de Ven, known for his speed, joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023 and has made 86 appearances for the club since. He has established himself as a noteworthy defender in the Premier League, particularly because of his quickness.

Signing a player like Van de Ven, especially at 24, would be a strategic move for United, particularly with Harry Maguire’s future uncertain and Leny Yoro’s occasional struggles.
