Manchester United needs new players in midfield. They have already improved significantly under Michael Carrick and are now real contenders for the Champions League. Adding one or two top midfielders could make them even stronger next season.
Many fans hope for a trio of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson among the midfielders linked to the club this summer. There are also mentions of Newcastle United players Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, although they seem less likely.
According to a report by Chris Wheeler and Nathan Salt from the Daily Mail, Manchester United is also considering U.S. national team midfielder Tyler Adams. He has recently recovered from a serious injury and is valued at around £40 million.
Adams is significantly cheaper than top midfield targets like Wharton, Anderson, Tonali, and Guimaraes, but he is also considered less effective. While he was once a promising player in the Red Bull system and is a decent Premier League option, his injury history raises concerns for United.
Past signings of lesser midfield options have not been successful for the club. They have learned that only impactful players like Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro will make a difference, and Adams does not fit that category.
There are at least five or seven midfielders who are stronger candidates for Manchester United. They can save money but should not compromise on quality.
