Manchester United plans to be very active in the summer transfer window to strengthen their midfield. They are currently looking into several promising midfielders in the Premier League.

Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba are on Manchester United’s transfer list. The club might aim to sign two of these players to potentially replace Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, and possibly Bruno Fernandes, who is frequently being linked to the Saudi Pro League ahead of 2026.

Additionally, United is interested in established Premier League player Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. He is considered one of the top midfielders and leaders in the game.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs on The United Stand show, there is a verbal agreement for Newcastle to discuss a transfer for Guimaraes at around £80 million to a top Champions League team. However, Manchester City is deemed “more likely” to pursue him than Manchester United.

If United loses Guimaraes to Manchester City, it would be a significant setback. City would then have an exceptional midfield pairing with Guimaraes and Rodri, surpassing Arsenal‘s Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Manchester United needs to take this situation seriously and show greater interest in Guimaraes at this price. He is more experienced than the younger players they are considering. Ideally, the club should sign him and also secure someone like Wharton or Anderson. If they can’t land Guimaraes, then they should focus on acquiring two of the three younger players.
