Manchester United made a controversial mid-season decision to raise matchday ticket prices to £66 per game in the Premier League, which meant no concessions for children or pensioners.

Before Manchester United’s match against Arsenal earlier this month, fans demonstrated against the ticket prices once more. In January, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was challenged by supporters at Craven Cottage, when the British billionaire was informed he was “taking the p***” and was “worse than the Glazers.”
£2 billion proposal to build a stadium with 100,000 seats
The INEOS chief’s extravagant declaration of a £2 billion proposal to build a stadium with 100,000 seats coincides with United’s financial difficulties and a number of cost-cutting initiatives over the past 12 months. With the Red Devils battling in 13th position in the Premier League under new manager Ruben Amorim, the club’s morale is also thought to be at an all-time low.
Dan Ashworth’s December dismissal from his position as sporting director, just months after United made coordinated attempts to convince him away from Newcastle, has been one of the more controversial sporting decisions under Ratcliffe’s ownership. Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt feel the team has lost its identity due to a number of contentious choices off the field and inconsistent play on the field.
Nicky Butt feels the team has lost its identity
Butt has been especially enraged by Ashworth’s departure, and in an interview with the Daily Mail, he displayed his anger and disappointment.

“Over the years, Man United has looked like it’s a plaster on a gaping wound,” he said. “It doesn’t work. They haven’t got the finances, they have to get their house in order, they have to be a proper football club that works to a design, an ethos and a recruitment drive of how to get players in and get them out for big money.
Obviously, they’ve got rid of Dan Ashworth, which I thought was a strange one, having worked so hard to get him from Newcastle. I think even if you got David Gill and Sir Alex back there, it’s going to be a struggle for a long time. We’re at the bottom of the mountain and there’s a massive climb to get up.”
Ryan Giggs wants young, hungry players who want to play for the club
Another former United great, Giggs said, “I’ve said for a long time that we need young, hungry players who want to play for the club,” he stated. “People who realise it’s not going to be an easy ride and a bit of a soft touch; come and finish your career or get money you perhaps don’t deserve. I think there’s been some harsh and truthful words being spoken over the last couple of months by Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim. Maybe it was needed, we’ll have to wait and see.”
