In recent years, Manchester United has focused on improving their financial situation, led by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

They have implemented strict cost-cutting measures and explored new revenue sources, such as layoffs and pre-season tours, allowing the club to sustain itself despite not qualifying for European competitions.

Missing out on the Champions League after losing in the Europa League final cost the team an estimated £100 million, while participation in the Europa League could have brought in £40 million.

A major challenge for the club has been selling players for a profit. Jadon Sancho, for example, was purchased from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million, but he is expected to leave Old Trafford for free when his contract ends.

Last summer, despite investing over £200 million in new players, only £60 million was made from sales. This includes Alejandro Garnacho, sold for £40 million, and Antony, who was bought for £90.9 million from Ajax but only fetched £20 million.

Manchester United is now hopeful for a more profitable summer.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club is aiming to generate around £70 million from the sales of Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

Both players have been loaned to Barcelona and Napoli respectively, performing well in their temporary teams and looking to secure permanent moves.

Rashford has scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 36 matches, while Hojlund has netted 13 goals and supplied four assists in 34 games.

Manchester United is counting on both clubs exercising their buy options included in the loan agreements.

Barcelona is reportedly interested in keeping Rashford, with discussions about a £26 million transfer already underway.

Napoli has paid a £5 million fee for Hojlund and United is confident that the £38 million buy clause will be invoked.

This money will be crucial for United, who are still responsible for £422 million in previous transfers. The projected £70 million from these sales, along with a potential £100 million from Champions League qualification, could significantly help reduce the debt.
