Mason Greenwood has been a key player for Marseille this season, showing strong form as the team’s campaign nears its end.

The 24-year-old, who joined Marseille in 2024, scored again on Saturday, bringing his total to 23 goals this season, surpassing his previous record of 22 goals.

The French media has responded positively to his performance, reflecting his growing reputation in the local press.

However, the season has not been without tension, as the club faces uncertainty about its future.

Roberto De Zerbi was recently dismissed as head coach, with speculation linking him to Manchester United.

De Zerbi, who had been with Marseille for almost two years, left a void that has generated plenty of chatter this past week.

Additionally, Medhi Benatia, Marseille’s Director of Football, resigned via his Instagram.

In his message, he expressed that he feels he gave his best professionally but regrets being unable to stabilize the team’s environment.

“Despite recent setbacks and difficult situations, the project is moving forward,” he wrote. “But I cannot overlook the current atmosphere. I sense growing dissatisfaction and a divide that I truly regret. In Marseille, results are the only measure of success.”

Reports indicated that Greenwood and Benatia had not been on good terms, with Benatia openly criticizing Greenwood.

With Benatia’s departure now official, there may be mixed feelings for Greenwood as the club heads into the final stretch of the season, with ongoing speculation surrounding the team’s future.
