Mathieu Choiniere scored twice in the second half, leading Los Angeles FC to a 2-0 win against St. Louis City SC on Saturday night.
Hugo Lloris made four saves for LAFC (4-0-0, 12 points), earning his fourth clean sheet while the team improved to 5-0-2 in their seven meetings with St. Louis.
Roman Burki had three saves for St. Louis (0-3-1, 1 point), which has not scored in its last three matches.
Choiniere opened the scoring in the 73rd minute, shooting the ball between a defender’s legs and past a diving Burki.
He added another goal just eight minutes later with a curled right-footed shot that got past Burki.
Before Choiniere’s goals, St. Louis missed a few good chances to score.
In the 60th minute, Marcel Hartel shot over the bar after an LAFC turnover.
Then, four minutes later, Sergio Cordova’s header from a corner kick went just wide of the goal.
The two teams were even in possession during the first half, with each managing a shot on target in a goalless 45 minutes.
LAFC’s best early chance came from Denis Bouanga, whose shot went over the bar in the first minute.
St. Louis thought they scored in the 14th minute from a Hartel free kick, but a foul on Chris Durkin overturned the goal.
Lloris made a crucial save in the 35th minute, stopping a shot from Cedric Teuchert.
With five minutes left in the first half, Nathan Ordaz hit the post with his shot.
This match was the first of two meetings between the teams this season, with LAFC set to visit St. Louis on May 13.
Both teams will return to MLS action next Saturday, with LAFC heading to Austin and St. Louis facing New England at home.
