Inter Miami will inaugurate its new stadium on Saturday, facing Austin FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Austin FC’s minority owner, Matthew McConaughey, plans to attend the match, excited to experience the vibrant atmosphere.
Before heading to the game, McConaughey wrote a letter to fellow owner David Beckham. Beckham has significantly influenced MLS since he joined in 2007. McConaughey expressed his gratitude for Beckham’s role ahead of the World Cup and his contributions to Inter Miami.
“As Austin visits Miami today for your stadium’s opening, I want to offer a heartfelt ‘thank you’ — while you didn’t create soccer in the U.S., you certainly elevated it.
“When you joined the Galaxy, you brought new legitimacy to MLS, turning games into events, and changing the league into a premier destination — THANK YOU.
“Now, you’re in Miami on a similar path, just in a different role — I respect that. I write to you because my Austin FC team and many fans are coming to your new home to disrupt your opening celebration, so please make some space for us this weekend.
“With the world’s eyes on us as summer approaches, we in Texas look forward to reinforcing American soccer for everyone to see.”
Inter Miami has started the 2026 season well, winning three out of five games and currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference. Depending on the outcome of Saturday’s match, they might move up the standings, with New York City FC and Nashville FC leading the charge.
Austin FC has had a tougher start, with just one win and two draws. McConaughey is keen to see his team return to winning form.
McConaughey’s letter to Beckham sets a positive tone ahead of the match, and the new stadium’s fans are ready for an exciting event.
