The World Cup is coming soon, with Mexico set to play South Africa in the first match on June 11.

As the tournament nears, concerns about player injuries increase for those looking to compete at this level.

Argentina is currently facing this issue, as Cristian Romero has a potential injury just weeks before the event.

Romero had to come off during Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland last Sunday, leaving the field in distress.

He was seen in tears as he left, and reports from Ben Jacobs indicate he has a knee injury that might keep him out for about eight weeks.

This timing is difficult, as Tottenham is fighting relegation and will be without one of their key defenders during a critical part of the season.

There is still a slim chance he could recover in time for the World Cup, but he would have limited time to regain fitness and match readiness.

Argentina’s alternatives as Romero recovery race begins

Romero is a key player for Argentina, having significantly contributed to their success in the 2022 World Cup.

The plan was for him to partner with Nicolas Otamendi again, ensuring stability in defense.

If Romero isn’t available or fully fit, Leonardo Balerdi from Olympique Marseille is likely to step into his place, having played in previous matches.

Another option is Marco Senesi from Bournemouth, though his left-footed play may require adjusting Otamendi’s usual position.
