Nashville: In a rain-soaked night at Geodis Park, Nashville SC defeated Inter Miami 2-1 in the opening round of the MLS Cup, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Overcoming a last-minute goal from Lionel Messi, the Tennessee team secured victory and advanced to a crucial third game in the playoff battle.

Nashville’s Sam Surridge opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a penalty, capitalizing on an error by Miami goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo. Just before halftime, Josh Bauer extended Nashville’s lead with a precise finish from a corner taken by Hany Mukhtar. Despite a strong effort from Miami, led by Argentine star Messi, they could not break through Nashville’s defense until the 89th minute.

Messi’s late goal reduced the lead, but it was too late for the visitors to level the score.

Following Miami’s impressive 3-1 win in the first game, this defeat brings back memories of their playoff exit last season. Facing the need for a win to advance, Miami must return to their home ground for the next match. The winners of this series will face Columbus or Cincinnati, with Cincinnati currently leading their match 1-0.
