Washington: Lionel Messi has once again proven he is one of the biggest stars in football. In an exciting match against D.C. United, Messi scored two goals and provided one assist, bringing Inter Miami closer to playoff qualification. The 38-year-old Messi regained the top scorer title in the league, netting 22 goals in 22 matches this season.
In a rain-soaked Chase Stadium, Inter Miami took control of the match from the start. Messi’s brilliant assist set up Allen for the first goal. Early in the second half, Benteke equalized for D.C. United. However, Messi regained Miami’s lead with a classic finish from Jordi Alba’s assist.
During the match, Messi showed his sportsmanship by giving a penalty to young player Silvett, but unfortunately, Silvett failed to convert it. Still, Messi’s impressive performance set up the third goal for Miami. A last-minute goal from D.C. United was not enough to change the outcome, ending the match at 3-2 in favor of Miami.
With this victory, Inter Miami climbed to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
