Marcus Rashford had a challenging time under Ruben Amorim in the 2024-25 season and spent the latter half on loan at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa decided against making his loan a permanent deal, leading Rashford to return briefly to Manchester United while Amorim was still the coach.

However, it was Barcelona that provided him with a new opportunity, signing him from United during the last summer transfer window.

During a pre-match press conference, Carrick was asked if he thought it was unfortunate for Rashford to leave United, considering their past as teammates and his role as a coach.

“It’s hard to say, you know, because of circumstances I haven’t been part of,” he commented, according to Manchester United’s official website.

“It’s tough for me to give a full opinion. I think his journey from the academy to his significant contributions has been positive. He has created many memorable moments, and I’ve shared some of those with him.”

Michael Carrick discusses Marcus Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona in 2025

The former Manchester United player has revitalized his career at Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, during the 2025-26 season.

Carrick highlighted Rashford’s career as an example of how unpredictable football can be.

“Football presents various situations; some players can’t stay forever, and changes happen,” he noted.

This season, Rashford has played 34 matches for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists thus far.
