Michael Carrick’s unbeaten run as Manchester United manager came to an end after a tough match at St James’ Park.
United lost 2–1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League, even though the home team played much of the match with ten men.
This defeat marked the first time Carrick had to deal with a setback since taking over as manager.

Michael Carrick reacts after Manchester United lose to Newcastle
After the match, Carrick shared his thoughts about the 2–1 loss against Newcastle on Sky Sports.
“The players have been fantastic. Losing a game like this hurts, and I’m really disappointed,” Carrick said.
“However, we must remember where we stand,” he added.
Before this match, United had enjoyed a strong performance under Carrick, winning six matches and remaining unbeaten in his first seven games.
At St James’ Park, Newcastle went ahead with an Anthony Gordon penalty, but Casemiro equalised. However, a late goal from substitute William Osula handed Newcastle the win.
This loss ended Carrick’s perfect record in a dramatic way.
Michael Carrick says defeat is a lesson for Manchester United
Even with the disappointment, Carrick believed the defeat could still be a learning opportunity for his team.
“As much as I’m upset, we have to learn from this. It serves as a lesson for us,” Carrick explained.
He has consistently stressed the need for growth during his time in charge.
This defeat, especially against a team with ten players, showed areas where United still need to improve to stay competitive at the top of the Premier League.
Carrick’s challenge now is to ensure this setback becomes a turning point rather than the start of a challenging period.
