10-man Tottenham beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace in London derby

Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles continued as they lost 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace, deepening their relegation worries.

Spurs are still winless in 2023, and their interim head coach, Igor Tudor, has lost all three matches in charge. His tenure began with a tough fixture against Arsenal, which ended in a 4-1 defeat. Last Sunday, Tottenham lost 2-1 to Fulham before facing Crystal Palace.

Pressure was high for Tudor going into the Palace match, and things worsened when Micky van de Ven was sent off in the first half for stopping a goalscoring chance after fouling Ismaila Sarr. Referee Andrew Madley issued a straight red card, leaving Spurs down to ten men.

Micky van de Ven suspended after red card vs. Crystal Palace

As reported by Football London, Micky van de Ven will miss Tottenham’s match against Liverpool on March 15 due to his suspension. However, he will be available to play in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Before Van de Ven’s red card, Sarr had a goal ruled out for offside after VAR review. Five minutes later, Dominic Solanke scored to put Palace ahead. Tottenham’s lead was short-lived as Sarr equalized from the penalty spot after Van de Ven’s foul inside the box.

Goals from Jorgen Stand Larsen and Sarr added to Tottenham’s woes before halftime. Tudor looked dejected for the remainder of the match. While his team put in a spirited effort after the break, it was not enough to overcome Palace.

Van de Ven’s dismissal compounds Tottenham’s troubles in the Premier League. As one of their top players this season, his absence against Liverpool at Anfield will be significant.

With relegation rivals West Ham United and Nottingham Forest securing positive results, Tottenham needed a win against Palace but fell short. Van de Ven’s red card undoubtedly impacted the game’s outcome.
