Anthony Markanich and Kelvin Yeboah scored in the second half, leading Minnesota United to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday in Carson, California. This marked Minnesota’s first road win of the season.
Markanich recorded his first goal of the season, while Yeboah added his third goal, making him the team leader in scoring. With this win, Minnesota United (2-2-2, 8 points) has now secured points in consecutive matches after a heavy 6-0 defeat against the Vancouver Whitecaps last month.
Minnesota played without forwards James Rodriguez (illness) and Julian Gressel (toe injury), as well as defender Michael Boxall (groin) and midfielder Peter Stroud (quad).
Marco Reus scored for the Galaxy (1-3-2, 5 points), who were missing key players, including forward Joseph Paintsil (hamstring) and defender Jakob Glesnes (calf).
Drake Callender made six saves for Minnesota, while JT Marcinkowski had one save for the Galaxy.
After a goalless first half, Minnesota took the lead in the 51st minute when Markanich scored after receiving a long pass from Joaquin Pereyra, beating Marcinkowski in a one-on-one.
The Galaxy equalized in the 57th minute when Reus scored following passes from Gabriel Pec and Joao Klauss. Reus’ first attempt was blocked, but he scored off the rebound with his left foot.
Minnesota regained the lead in the 67th minute after a turnover by the Galaxy. Tomas Chancalay made a run towards the goal line and delivered a centering pass, which Yeboah converted for the score.
This match marked Chancalay’s first assists in his debut season with Minnesota United, contributing to both of the team’s goals.
