Liverpool dominated West Ham United on Saturday, winning 5-2 in an important Premier League match. However, Mohamed Salah did not make an impact in the game.
This marked Salah’s 10th consecutive Premier League match without scoring. In this game, he also did not provide any assists, with no successful dribbles, no fouls drawn, and losing the ball four times.
This performance was notably subpar for a standout player on a day when his team scored five goals. While Liverpool typically performs better with Salah on the field, his recent struggles led to discussions about giving young winger Rio Ngumoha more playing time.
Terms like “finished” and “terrible” are often used in football discussions, but Salah is neither. However, with only four goals in about 20 Premier League matches this season, he is not at the elite level he once was.
Salah is currently struggling to take on defenders or effectively support his team’s offensive play, functioning more as a veteran playmaker than a dynamic winger.
Liverpool also has Cody Gakpo in a similar role, which isn’t sufficient for a title-winning team. Despite recent victories, Salah’s contributions have not been a significant factor.
There’s no doubt about Salah’s place among the greatest Premier League players, sharing a legacy with legends like Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard. However, at 33 years old, he now seems to be more of a backup player at a top club rather than a leading star.
