Andre Onana will return to Manchester United in the summer after his loan at Trabzonspor ends.

Ruben Amorim indicated a need for changes in goalkeeping, leading to Onana’s loan move.

Manchester United signed Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day for £18 million and sent Onana to Trabzonspor for the entire 2025/26 season.

While Lammens is performing well at Old Trafford, Onana has faced challenges during his time in Turkey, including a tough game in yesterday’s 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce.

Onana is reportedly in discussions with Inter Milan about a possible summer transfer, suggesting he plans to return to Manchester before seeking a new team.

Ineos appears more focused on removing his salary from their books than on how much they can sell him for.

Onana currently earns £120,000 per week at United, totaling over £6 million annually.

If he returns, United would pay a large amount for a goalkeeper expected to be Lammens’ backup. With Onana’s contract lasting until 2028, there is significant internal pressure to transfer him as soon as possible.

Andre Onana’s wage increase could cause problems for Man United

Ineos has worked to create more financial stability at Manchester United, so Onana’s return without on-field contributions is less than ideal.

Trabzonspor is currently paying his entire salary, but this financial responsibility will revert to United upon his return.

Additionally, his contract has a clause linked to Champions League participation that would raise his salary.

According to The Mirror, Onana’s pay could increase to around £170,000 per week if United qualifies for the Champions League.

With United in fourth place and likely to qualify next season, this adds further urgency for the club to find a solution.
