The 2026 MLS season is starting, and Betting.net surveyed 1,500 U.S. soccer fans on whether they would bet against their own team. The results show that 24% of FC Dallas fans have done so at least once. Here are the details from the study.

FC Dallas Fans Bet Against Their MLS Team

As the new MLS season approaches, FC Dallas fans stand out in the latest Betting.net study, where 24% have bet against their team at least once.

Overall, nearly 33% of MLS fans have placed bets against their favorite team, with 84% indicating they would consider it. San Jose Earthquakes fans are the most likely to make this move, with 95% saying they would bet against their team, while Houston Dynamo fans are the least inclined at 67%.

Additionally, 55% of Austin FC fans have bet against their team, the highest among all MLS fanbases. Nationally, 25% of U.S. soccer fans have placed bets against the U.S. national team, with 73% expressing they would do so. Notably, 49% view betting against Team USA as a betrayal, compared to 42% who feel the same about their favorite MLS team.

FC Dallas Fans Would Bet Against Their Team

While not all FC Dallas fans have bet against their team, Betting.net found that 76% would consider it. However, 45% of FC Dallas supporters view betting as a form of betrayal.

For MLS fans, watching their team lose is disheartening. Many fans are committed to their teams, but the study suggests that loyalty may change when money is involved. Around 64% feel uneasy about betting against their team, and 42% consider it outright betrayal. About 28% have bet against their team at least once, with the average fan likely to switch sides for a payout of $148.

The findings also apply to Austin, where 55% of Austin FC fans have admitted to betting against their favorite team. San Jose Earthquakes fans again lead in this regard, with 95% willing to bet against their team, although 53% see it as betrayal.

In contrast, Colorado Rapids fans are the least likely to bet against their team, with just 9% doing so, and 73% deeming any betting against their team as betrayal, even with the prospect of cash rewards.

FC Dallas’ Outlook

Looking ahead, FC Dallas seems poised for a positive 2026 season, thanks to several key players, strategic moves, and strong leadership under Head Coach Eric Quill.

Quill, 47, has been leading FC Dallas since 2024, having previously coached at New Mexico United, Columbus Crew, North Texas Soccer Club, and the Houston Cougars women’s basketball team.

The 2025 season already showed great improvement for FC Dallas, highlighted by better on-field performance and a playoff berth.
