The English Premier League is changing its traditional Boxing Day matches this Christmas season. While other leagues take a break during Christmas, the Premier League will continue to hold matches. However, this year, only the match between Manchester United and Newcastle United will take place on Boxing Day. The other games are scheduled for December 27 and December 28.
The Premier League explained that this decision was made to reduce the burden on players as Boxing Day matches are being rescheduled due to European competitions. The league plans to bring back Boxing Day matches when it falls on a weekend. Next year, Boxing Day will be on a Saturday, so all matches will be held that day. To attract fans to the stadium during the festive season, there will be TV blackout restrictions for Premier League matches on December 26, 27, and 28, making it harder to broadcast those games in Britain.
