In the past month, Patrick Dorgu has started to find his rhythm at Manchester United, a year after joining the club.

He moved from Lecce in January 2025 and was the first major signing under coach Ruben Amorim, seen as the new main left-wing-back.

After struggles in the left-back position, with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw facing injuries, Dorgu was expected to bring consistency.

However, things didn’t go as planned initially, as the 21-year-old was replaced by right-back Diogo Dalot on the left side.

That changed when Amorim left Old Trafford last month. Dorgu has since impressed, earning a nomination for the Premier League January 2026 Player of the Month award.

The Premier League announced his nomination alongside players like Yasin Ayari and Enzo Fernandez.

A significant shift was Carrick’s decision to reposition Dorgu to left-wing, similar to his role at Lecce, where he was often in an attacking position.

This nomination follows an undefeated January for United in the Premier League, where they beat both Manchester City and Arsenal.

Dorgu contributed key goals in both matches, with a standout moment being his impressive goal against Arsenal.

He also assisted Benjamin Sesko for his goal during a 2-2 draw with Burnley.

However, February has not started well for Dorgu, as he missed the match against Fulham due to injury.

Before the Fulham game, Carrick confirmed the injury, stating: “Pat will be out for a while.”

He added, “We’re still assessing the timeline for his return.”

“It’s disappointing, especially after his recent performances.”

“Initially, we thought it might be cramp, but it seems more serious now.”

“It will be a few weeks. How many? We’ll have to see.”

Despite this setback, January may be a sign of more positive performances from Dorgu in the future.
