Manchester United‘s season has been filled with off-field drama, particularly involving Paul Scholes.

Earlier this year, former manager Ruben Amorim was let go, and club legend Michael Carrick took over on an interim basis.

Under Carrick’s leadership, the team’s results improved, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, marking his first loss.

This game led to discussions online when Scholes seemed to criticize Carrick in a now-deleted Instagram post.

In the post, Scholes commented, “Michael has definitely got something about him… because United has been poor the last four games… night.”

The remark quickly grabbed attention before it was removed.

Scholes has since publicly addressed the situation.

While appearing on the GoodBadFootball podcast, the former player stated that his comments were not meant to offend Carrick.

“It was in no way intended to be offensive towards Michael. He’d be the last person I want to offend,” he said.

“I messaged Michael, and he told me he wasn’t upset by it.”

This clarification indicates a softer approach from Scholes.

He has not hesitated to express candid views about the club over the years.

Earlier this season, Scholes criticized Lisandro Martinez, prompting a response from the Argentine defender.

Outside of football, Scholes made news in November 2025 after selling his £3 million family home, adding another chapter to his life story.

Despite the Instagram controversy, Scholes’ recent comments suggest there is no ongoing tension between him and Carrick.

With Manchester United striving to finish the season strongly under Carrick’s management, focus is likely to shift back to on-field matters.
