  • Ballon d’Or winner admitted improper conduct charge but avoids suspension

Manchester City’s Rodri has been fined £80,000 ($107,000) but will not face any suspension after questioning a referee’s integrity following a Premier League match.

After the 2-2 draw against Tottenham on February 1, Rodri stated: “We have won too much and people don’t want us to win, but the referee should be neutral. Honestly, it’s not fair.”

The Football Association reported that Rodri accepted a charge at an independent hearing for “acting in an improper manner during a post-match media interview by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or match officials.”

Besides the fine, Rodri, who recently won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, received a warning about his future conduct.
