Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scores two late goals, giving PSG a strong 5-2 lead heading into the next leg.
João Neves and Ousmane Dembélé made their returns from injury to help Paris Saint-Germain defeat Chelsea 5-2 in the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday.
The pair helped set up the opening goal after just 10 minutes, with Dembélé netting a fantastic solo goal later in the half.
PSG scored their third goal thanks to a mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen, who misplayed a pass to PSG’s Bradley Barcola. Barcola then assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who set up Vitinha to lob the ball over Jørgensen.
Kvaratskhelia added two more goals late in the match, putting PSG in a strong position for the second leg next Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
Dembélé Shines
Dembélé’s speed and skill on his goal highlighted his return to form after a season affected by injuries.
He received a pass near the halfway line and sprinted past defenders Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana before scoring with a low shot into the bottom left corner.
On the opening goal, Dembélé crossed the ball from the right, which Neves headed down for Barcola to finish from close range.
Dembélé nearly scored again shortly after, hitting the crossbar with a powerful shot. He was substituted midway through the second half.
Neves, who had been recovering from an ankle injury since PSG’s last match against Monaco, returned to the lineup. Dembélé had also been dealing with a calf injury but came off the bench in PSG’s recent loss to Monaco.
Their return allowed coach Luis Enrique to field a strong lineup, although midfielder Fabián Ruiz is still out with a knee injury.
The last encounter between PSG and Chelsea was a 3-0 win for Chelsea in July during the Club World Cup final.
