Raheem Sterling’s departure from Chelsea was expected. After two unimpressive seasons at Chelsea, he spent another year on loan at Arsenal. Since leaving Manchester City, Sterling’s performance has not stood out.
His exit from Chelsea was confirmed on January 28. For a player with experience at four major clubs—Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal—becoming a free agent at 31 is not ideal.
Raheem Sterling’s Exit From Chelsea Due to Continued Poor Performance
Sterling’s exit from Chelsea stemmed from a series of disappointing performances for both Chelsea and Arsenal. In 109 matches across both clubs, he scored only 20 goals. At Arsenal, he netted just once in 28 games, which is a forgettable record.
This contrasts sharply with his time at Manchester City, where he scored 131 goals in 339 matches and won four Premier League titles. He also earned 82 caps for the England national team, scoring 20 goals.
For a player with such an impressive background, it’s unfortunate to be without a club at this stage of his career. While he may find a place with a smaller club soon, it seems unlikely that any major clubs will approach him.
Sterling’s style relied heavily on his speed and his ability to link up with the center-forward while playing as a winger. He is also capable of playing on either flank or as a center-forward, adding to his versatility.
With over 550 appearances in top-flight English football and 174 goals, departing from Chelsea under these circumstances is not ideal. His exit came after being sidelined and forced to train alone from the rest of the squad.
