Marcus Rashford’s loan move is likely to become permanent, but the upcoming presidential election at Barcelona may influence this decision.

The Manchester United forward has performed remarkably well since joining Camp Nou.

After a brief loan at Aston Villa, Rashford became part of the La Liga champions this summer, quickly integrating into the squad.

With ten goals and 13 assists in 34 games, he is the second-highest contributor in Hansi Flick’s team, trailing only Lamine Yamal by five goals.

It’s no surprise that Flick wishes to keep Rashford, with Barcelona’s management supporting the permanent move due to a £26 million buy option.

However, The Times reports that the mid-March presidential election could significantly affect these plans.

Incumbent president Joan Laporta is facing competition from Victor Font. While both support Flick’s position, a change in leadership could alter the executive structure.

Laporta has been successful since taking office in 2021, leading Barca to four trophies in the past ten months under Flick’s management.

While Laporta would likely continue to support director of football Deco, Font is not expected to back the former player.

As Deco was instrumental in facilitating Rashford’s move, any changes in leadership could impact the England international’s future at the club.

Nevertheless, with Barcelona recently winning the Spanish Super Cup and securing five victories in six El Clásicos while sitting at the top of La Liga, it’s hard to foresee any significant changes.
