Real Madrid is once again uncertain about their managerial situation. The appointment of Xabi Alonso did not produce the desired outcomes.

Alonso came in with high hopes after a successful time at Bayer Leverkusen. However, his time at Real lasted just over seven months before he was let go.

He faced frustration from fans and reported difficulties in relationships with key players in the team.

Didier Deschamps has now joined Real Madrid’s list of managerial candidates, according to RMC Sport.

Deschamps has announced his intention to leave his role as national team manager after the 2026 World Cup, making him a viable long-term option for the club.

Real Madrid values several characteristics in Deschamps. He is seen as a strong leader with experience at the top level.

His skills in managing elite players are crucial. Deschamps speaks Spanish and has good relationships with players like Aurelien Tchouameni and Kylian Mbappe. These connections can be beneficial in a team with many star players.

Currently, Alvaro Arbeloa is in charge after Alonso’s exit. He is well-liked by president Florentino Perez.

However, Arbeloa’s long-term position is uncertain. Without offering a significant trophy, it’s unlikely he will keep the role beyond this season.

Didier Deschamps’ last club management experience

Deschamps hasn’t managed at the club level for 14 years, with his last position being at Olympique de Marseille, where he won six titles in three seasons.

This period included a Ligue 1 title, showcasing his domestic capabilities. Since then, he has focused solely on international football.

With France, he has enjoyed one of the most successful phases in their history. He won the 2018 World Cup and added the Nations League to his achievements.

He also led France to the 2022 World Cup final and reached the quarter-finals in 2014. This consistent performance in major tournaments highlights his credentials.
