  • This late goal allowed Diego Simeone’s team to move into third place after Villarreal’s earlier loss.

Julián Álvarez scored a 94th-minute goal for Atletico Madrid, winning 1-0 against Real Oviedo.

As the match looked set for a draw, Oblak’s impressive saves kept Atletico hopeful. Álvarez’s timely goal lifted Simeone’s side into third in LaLiga following Villarreal’s defeat to Barcelona.

Oviedo, sitting eight points from safety, started strong with Federico Vilnas testing Oblak early on and heading just wide later. Atletico struggled to find their pace initially.

In first-half stoppage time, Oviedo nearly scored twice. Oblak denied Ilyas Chaira’s first shot and then saved Alberto Reina’s follow-up from a corner.

Atletico looked more energized at the start of the second half after Álvarez replaced Ademola Lookman, but Vilnas continued to challenge the Atletico defense.

As both teams pushed for a win, the ending became lively. Alex Baena had a goal disallowed for offside in the 86th minute, while Oblak caught a header from Vilnas that followed a cross from Santi Cazorla.

In the final moments, Álvarez sealed the victory, skillfully maneuvering past Kwasi Sibo and scoring at the near post.
