The New England Revolution has extended captain Carles Gil’s contract to June 2028, keeping the midfielder with the team through MLS’s first summer-spring season in 2027-28.

No financial details were disclosed for this extension, which replaces Gil’s previous contract set to run through 2026 with an option for another year.

At 33 years old, Gil has been with the Revolution for seven seasons, holding records for assists (87) and total goal contributions (136). He was named the 2021 MLS MVP and has scored 49 goals in 193 appearances, with 183 of those being starts for the team.

A Spanish native, Gil had 10 goals and 14 assists in 34 matches last season, but New England ended the year with a 9-16-9 record in the Eastern Conference, missing the playoffs.

Starting in 2027, MLS will adopt a shortened schedule in the spring. The season will then run from June 2027 to spring 2028 to align with other major leagues worldwide.
