Wayne Rooney thinks Michael Carrick should be given the Manchester United job permanently after their important win over Aston Villa today.
The 3-1 win marked Carrick’s eighth victory in ten games as the manager.
United Secure Champions League Spot with Villa Win
This win also solidified their position in third place, giving United a three-point lead over Villa as they head into the final eight matches of the season.
Since Carrick took over when the team was out of both cup competitions, his main focus has been to qualify for the Champions League. It would now require a significant drop in form for that goal not to be met.
Goals came from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, all of whom have performed well under Carrick’s management.
Sesko, in particular, is experiencing his best scoring run, netting five goals in his last seven league appearances, with four of those as a substitute.
Rooney: Carrick Should Be the Permanent Manager
After the match, Rooney remarked on BBC Sport’s 5Live: “100% he [Carrick] should [get the job]. I expected this success with Michael Carrick.
“I know him well. His calm demeanor has been crucial, and he provides the players with the support they need.
“We’ve seen the team play better, showing more unity and strength. Why would you change that?
“He has the best winning percentage of any Manchester United manager after this many games. He deserves the role.”
