Since joining Napoli, Scott McTominay has scored 23 goals in under two full seasons, which is close to the 29 goals he scored during his time at Manchester United from 2017 to 2024.
In this context, Italian outlet TMW has noted that McTominay is considering a possible return to the Premier League.
According to their report, Manchester United would likely be the leading candidate if that were to happen.
“Those who know him well say he is happy in Naples and satisfied with Napoli. However, he dreams of returning to the Premier League eventually,” they stated.
“Among the teams eager to welcome him back to England, Manchester United is at the forefront.”
Napoli signed McTominay for £25.4 million, which helped improve United’s financial standing at that time.
The proceeds from this deal were used to acquire Manuel Ugarte, although he has not fully won over fans in his two seasons at Old Trafford so far.
If McTominay is sold again, United will receive a small percentage of the future fee due to a sell-on clause in their agreement with Napoli.
McTominay’s Potential Return to Manchester United
A return to Manchester United for Scott McTominay is possible in the future, but it seems unlikely that he would join another English team.
He has focused on becoming a more forward player and has defined his role after moving around various positions at United.
Ruben Amorim’s tactics might have benefitted McTominay, offering him an attacking position next to Bruno Fernandes.
If he were to return to United, he might need to play a more defensive role or come off the bench behind Fernandes.
As a squad player, he could add a different dynamic if United opts to move on from Mason Mount.
Nevertheless, it seems McTominay has unfinished business at Napoli and is not likely to leave this summer.
