Former Spanish national team captain and Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos is reportedly one step closer to becoming the new owner of Sevilla.
According to a report by Football Espana on Monday, the Spanish club’s acquisition process has entered the final stages of appointing a new owner.
Previously, a consortium from the United States led by Antonio Lappi and Fede Quintero had been a strong candidate to become Sevilla’s new owner.
However, the process hit a deadlock, paving the way for Ramos, a former Sevilla player, to step forward as the main bidder.
In this project, Ramos collaborated with Martin Ink, an Argentinian businessman and CEO of Five Eleven Capital, a US-based football holding company.
With this structure, Sergio Ramos is now the strongest candidate in the process of buying his childhood club.
Earlier this month, Ramos reportedly formally submitted a takeover proposal to Sevilla shareholders.
The offer submitted by the 39-year-old man is said to be the highest compared to other existing offers, after the American consortium withdrew from the takeover process.
According to Football Espana, the consortium led by Ramos has reached an acquisition agreement for 450 million euros.
Ramos now hopes the acquisition can be approved by a shareholders’ meeting in the next few weeks.
