San Diego FC aims to maintain their strong start in the 2026 season as they visit Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, having gone 180 minutes without conceding a goal.

San Diego (2-0-0, 6 points) travels to Kansas City after two wins at home, the latest being a 2-0 victory over St. Louis City on Sunday. They began the season with a 5-0 win against CF Montreal, continuing their momentum from the 2025 season when they reached the Western Conference final in their first year.

Although both of San Diego’s wins this year came against teams that finished 13th in their conferences last season, they were nonetheless convincing victories.

Anders Dreyer and Marcus Ingvartsen scored for San Diego in the most recent match, each assisting the other’s goal.

Dreyer’s goal on Sunday made him the second-fastest player in MLS history to achieve 20 goals and 20 assists in just 36 regular-season matches. Only Lionel Messi, who reached the mark in 26 matches, is ahead of him.

Last season, Dreyer had 38 goal contributions (19 goals, 19 assists), matching the league record for a rookie.

“It all starts with my teammates,” Dreyer said about his achievement. “They know where to find me, and I’m fortunate they finish the chances.”

Sporting KC (0-1-1, 1 point) gained some momentum with a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew last Saturday following a 3-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes in their opener.

Dejan Joveljic scored both goals for Sporting in the draw, while goalkeeper John Pulskamp made a crucial penalty save late in the game to secure the point.

“After just one game, somehow we grew up,” Joveljic said.

Pulskamp credited his teammates for creating the conditions for his successful save, noting, “I think it’s something like 80% of penalties are scored. Fortunately, I was able to make the stop today.”

San Diego has never lost to Sporting KC, having recorded a scoreless draw and a 2-0 win last year.
