Mohamed Salah scored against Wolves, but Steve Nicol had little positive to say about his overall performance.
Prior to this match, Salah had not scored in ten league games but managed to find the net in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss.
His goal was a good individual effort, but Nicol noted that there was little else noteworthy in his display. Just moments after scoring, Salah had another chance to put Liverpool ahead, and Nicol was surprised he didn’t capitalize on it.

Salah’s sharpness in front of goal seems to be lacking. His goal had a bit of luck, slipping under Jose Sa, but it still counts. However, his next big chance drew criticism. During a 3v2 break with Szoboszlai and Ekitike, Salah failed to make the right pass.
After the match, Nicol discussed Salah’s difficulties and wider issues with Liverpool’s attack.
Nicol stated: “You need to create clear chances and score goals, especially against a team that is at the bottom of the league. Losing like this to Wolves isn’t acceptable.”
“Wolves had two shots on target and scored two goals. In the final third, the decisions and passes were poor,” he added.
“The missed opportunity with Mo Salah stands out. Despite scoring, he really didn’t contribute much else that evening,” he concluded.
Salah’s key moment came with just five minutes left. In a close match, his missed chance became more significant once Wolves took advantage at Anfield. This timing was especially painful for Liverpool supporters.
Since joining Liverpool in the 2017-18 season, Salah has been crucial for the team. However, there is little indication this season that things will improve. At 31 years old, turning 32 soon, he doesn’t seem poised for a quick comeback either.
