Sunderland Signs Winger from Anderlecht
About Nilson Angulo
Angulo is a 12-time capped player for Ecuador and has played 97 matches for Anderlecht since joining in 2022. During this time, he scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists, with most coming from his 22 appearances this season.
Scout Antonio Mango described Angulo on Twitter as athletic and dynamic, highlighting his dribbling skills and ability to navigate past defenders quickly. He noted that Angulo is effective at driving forward when receiving the ball.
Angulo is anticipated to be included in Ecuador’s World Cup squad this summer and scored his first national team goal against New Zealand in November. He has also contributed to Anderlecht’s second-place standing in the Belgian league and their advancement to the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup.
Recent Activity at Sunderland
The signing of Angulo follows that of 22-year-old goalkeeper Melker Ellborg from Malmö FF. Ellborg’s arrival allowed Anthony Patterson to be loaned to Millwall for the remainder of the season. Additionally, Dan Neil has joined Ipswich Town on loan, as his playing time has been limited and his contract expires this summer.
Furthermore, Patrick Roberts has moved permanently to Birmingham City, Aji Alese has been loaned to Portsmouth, and Leo Hjelde has joined Sheffield United until the end of the season.
