Sunderland Transfer Roundup: New Keeper, Departing Keeper, and Lutsharel Geertruida Update
Latest on Lutsharel Geertruida
Earlier today, reports from the BBC and the Sunderland Echo indicated that Lutsharel Geertruida’s loan season at Sunderland from RB Leipzig might be cut short before the transfer deadline. It was suggested that Liverpool, the current Premier League champions, were interested in signing him.
Geertruida has a no-recall clause in his loan agreement, meaning Sunderland would need to approve any arrangement between RB Leipzig and Liverpool. The club would also want to find a replacement and recover part of the £2 million loan fee paid to Leipzig.
However, tonight, football correspondent David Ornstein reported that the transfer for Geertruida has fallen through. It’s believed that the deal was too complex to finalize before the 7 pm deadline tomorrow.
