This season, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona has destroyed every team in the La Liga and Champions League. This change in Barcelona’s fortune can be credited to Flick and his tactics that have allowed Barcelona to adapt a new play style and make it their own.
Compared to Xavi’s Barcelona last year they are now highly competitive, look physically superior and play like a proper team. The high risk high reward type of play has reaped fruitful bearings for Barcelona as they have run riot on teams that they were dominated by till the last year.
A silent killer through this team of destruction is Pedri. Many count his goal contribution to compare him to the best midfielders in the world but his work goes much above and beyond this illusion of stats.
Finesse in every touch, and grace in his gliding all over the pitch, Pedri is a modern day maestro of the game. He runs the game at his own pace and makes the opposition dance to his own tunes.
He has that rare quality of keeping the tempo of the game to his will and finding players with every pass. His passing ability has always been his forte but this season he has acquired a new trait in his ‘work rate’.
This season has been a revelation for him, as he was considered a tidy midfielder with excellent touch and pass ability but he has covered a great amount of grass in every game and has managed to play the full 90 minutes in most of the game.
Until the last season, he was that guy who used to play excellent football but used to fizz out in 60 minutes and was involved higher up the pitch but now he has taken on defensive duties as well.

This season has marked Pedri’s return to the elite category of midfielders and he is on the lookout to get to the top of the list. His renewed hunger for the ball and Barcelona’s new playing style has helped him in becoming immortal on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
Barcelona’s high defensive lines requires a midfielder who can take a touch and turn with the ball at their will and Pedri excels in this. Technically he is the only midfielder in the team as Casado sticks with the defence line and Dani Olmo joins the attack so the onus is on him to keep the ball moving.
He has been behind the success for Barcelona but gets overshadowed by the likes of Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski.
