Tottenham Looking for Goalkeeper Replacements for Guglielmo Vicario
Guglielmo Vicario has been a key player for Tottenham Hotspur since the start of the 2023/24 season. However, he has faced scrutiny due to inconsistent performances, issues during set-pieces, and a few critical mistakes. As a result, many supporters are calling for his departure at the end of the season. Vicario also appears open to leaving the Premier League to return to Serie A, with Inter Milan reportedly interested. Juventus is another club that could pursue him.
Tottenham is aiming to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the 2026/27 season. Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is among those linked with a move, along with James Trafford from Manchester City.
Former Scout Suggests Tottenham’s Interest in James Trafford
Tottenham previously tried to sign James Trafford last summer, but Manchester City secured him instead. Trafford had been keen to return to City after a loan at Burnley, but the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG limited his playing time to domestic cups.
Ex-scout Mick Brown shared that Spurs are likely to intensify their interest in Trafford if he becomes available. He mentioned, “Tottenham are looking at a few new goalkeepers… one who I think is going to be high up on their list is James Trafford.”
Brown noted that Trafford is dissatisfied with his role at City, stating, “He doesn’t want to be a number two, so a move to Tottenham could be a good opportunity.” He emphasized Trafford’s strong reputation and potential as a long-term investment for Tottenham.
Trafford as a Potential Upgrade for Vicario
If Tottenham wishes to improve their league standing, they should consider replacing Vicario. Fortunately, he has interests from clubs in Italy and is likely to be open to leaving. Trafford would be a solid choice to step into the No.1 role at Spurs.
At just 23, Trafford is eager for more playing time and does not want to remain second to Donnarumma at City. A transfer to Tottenham would allow him the opportunity to showcase his abilities as a top goalkeeper in the Premier League. However, much will depend on whether Manchester City is willing to let him go.
