Tottenham to Pursue Serie A Defender

Tottenham Hotspur is facing a tough situation, and the interim management of Igor Tudor hasn’t brought the desired results. The team is focused on avoiding relegation while planning to refresh their squad after the season.

Several problems within the team need attention, especially in defense, which has been unreliable for months. Notably, star defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are reportedly considering moves away from the club.

Romero, who extended his contract last year, is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid this summer, while Van de Ven is on Barcelona’s radar. If Tottenham were to be relegated, it is unlikely that both players would stay, as they aim to compete for major titles and consistently play in the Champions League, which Tottenham is currently struggling to offer.

Consequently, Spurs are starting to prepare for life without Romero and Van de Ven.

Tottenham Interested in Lazio Defender

As reported by Italian newspaper TuttoSport, Tottenham and a few other English clubs are considering a move for Lazio defender Mario Gila. Aston Villa and Everton have also shown interest, while AC Milan recently scouted him during Lazio’s 2-1 victory over Sassuolo.

Gila has been a pivotal part of Lazio’s defense since 2022, making 112 appearances and scoring two goals. This season alone, he has played 25 times in Serie A, even stepping into central midfield during a significant injury crisis.

Gila’s contract with Lazio lasts until 2027 (Transfermarkt), but he does not want to extend it. This scenario presents Lazio with a chance to earn a transfer fee this summer, especially considering their previous financial difficulties.

The report states that there is currently no fixed price for the 25-year-old, but it is expected to be around €30 million. This is an amount Premier League clubs can afford, giving them an edge over AC Milan in the pursuit of Gila.

Tottenham Must Stay in Premier League for Gila

Gila has demonstrated his skills in Serie A with a blend of technical ability and physical strength. His speed and recovery make him well-suited for the fast pace of Premier League football. At 25, he is entering his prime years, and after four seasons in Italy, he might be interested in taking on the Premier League challenge.

It’s important for Spurs to remain in the Premier League to realistically compete with Villa and Everton for Gila. He could be a valuable addition to strengthen Tottenham’s defense and provide leadership.
