Igor Tudor has been appointed as Tottenham’s interim manager.
Tottenham Hotspur decided to replace Thomas Frank after a disappointing loss to Newcastle United last week. Igor Tudor has stepped in as interim manager, taking over until the end of the current season.
While the club secured the option that Fabio Paratici initially preferred, there were other candidates considered. Mauricio Pochettino remains a key target for Tottenham in the summer, as he is set to coach the USA in the upcoming World Cup.
Tottenham reached out to Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira before firing Thomas Frank
Despite mixed opinions about Tudor, it’s reported that he almost didn’t get the role. According to ESPN Brazil, Tottenham contacted Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira before appointing Tudor.
The report indicates that Vinai and his team reached out to Ferreira a few weeks ago, while Frank was still in charge. However, Ferreira declined since he recently signed a contract with Palmeiras until 2027.
Ferreira has turned down several Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton, and Chelsea, demonstrating that he values a well-structured environment over money or fame.
Other names considered by Tottenham included Roberto de Zerbi, Edin Terzic, Robbie Keane, and Marco Rose.
Tottenham may revisit signing Ferreira in the summer
While Tudor has a good track record, he is not seen as a long-term option. Pochettino is favored for the role, but if that doesn’t work out, the club could still consider Ferreira as a potential candidate.
