Tottenham to Assess Market Before Confirming New Head Coach
Last week, Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with Thomas Frank after realizing his approach wasn’t effective during his first season in charge.
After a brief search for Frank’s replacement, the club appointed Igor Tudor as interim head coach. Tudor will lead the team until the end of the season, starting with his first match against Arsenal this Sunday in the North London derby.
This interim appointment allows Tottenham to explore various options for a permanent manager during the summer. Currently, Spurs are facing challenges, sitting in 16th place in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.
In the meantime, discussions will continue regarding who will take over permanently and the direction the club will pursue this summer.
Tottenham Monitoring Michael Carrick
With Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi as early candidates for the full-time head coach position at Tottenham, the club’s decision-makers have taken notice of Michael Carrick’s recent success at Manchester United.
Having played over 450 matches for Manchester United from 2006 to 2018, Carrick returned to the club as a coach and later as interim manager. He also played 75 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2006. Since taking over, he has led the Red Devils to four wins and one draw in five Premier League matches, moving them up to fourth place.
According to former scout Mick Brown, Spurs are keenly observing Carrick as a potential replacement for Frank should he leave Manchester United. Brown noted that Carrick’s history with Tottenham positions him favorably for consideration.
“Tottenham are keeping tabs on Michael Carrick,” Mick Brown mentioned to Football Insider.
“He has connections to Tottenham from his playing days, just like he does at Manchester United, so he’s on their radar if he becomes available.
“They’ve been impressed with what he’s done at United in his short tenure. It’s unclear what direction Tottenham wants to take with their next manager—whether they prefer attacking football or a more stable, pragmatic style.
“They’ve switched between various styles for a long time with managers like Mourinho, Conte, Postecoglou, and now Frank, and none have been successful.
“Carrick’s strong performance at United will attract attention from various clubs, including Tottenham, especially if he’s not appointed full-time at Man United. Ultimately, it’s up to United to decide his future—if they choose him, he will stay there despite other interests.
“However, if he becomes available, he’s likely to be high on Tottenham’s list as they explore their options.”
Spurs May Seek an Experienced Manager
Carrick has built his managerial credentials over two seasons at Middlesbrough in the Championship, creating a competitive and progressive team while working with a limited budget.
His recent success at Manchester United has exceeded expectations, providing an immediate boost in performance after the club dismissed Ruben Amorim.
While Tottenham has shown interest in Carrick’s progress, they might also consider hiring a more established manager to take over from Tudor this summer, aiming to lead the club into a new chapter.
