Following the hiring of Thomas Frank, hopes were high for the 2025/26 season, but Tottenham Hotspur is facing significant challenges. The team currently sits in 14th place in the Premier League, 9 points above West Ham, who are in the relegation zone. Improvements are needed if the club wants to compete effectively in cup matches. After the transfer deadline day on February 2, Fabrizio Romano mentioned on the Here We Go Podcast that Tottenham chose not to sign former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran on loan.

Tottenham Hotspur Need Further Improvement Despite Recent Manchester City Draw

Tottenham Turn Down Opportunity to Sign Duran

This season has offered few bright spots for Tottenham, who have not won any of their last five league games. However, they showed some resilience in their last match, coming back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to earn a point thanks to a brace from Dominic Solanke.

Will Tottenham build on this draw against Manchester City, or is it just a brief pause in a difficult season? Despite winning the Europa League last year, Spurs had a disappointing season overall, and this year is proving to be similarly challenging. However, they have at least progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Romano discussed on the Here We Go Podcast how Tottenham rejected the chance to acquire Colombian striker Jhon Duran on loan.

Despite injury issues affecting the team, Frank opted not to sign the former Aston Villa forward. Duran had a decent record at Villa, scoring 20 goals in 78 appearances, and seemed interested in joining Tottenham.

Currently at Fenerbahce on loan from Al-Nassr, the 22-year-old has netted five goals in 21 matches for the Turkish club.

Romano stated: “Tottenham were offered the chance to sign Jhon Duran on loan from Fenerbahce, who is on loan from Al-Nassr.” Nevertheless, the club chose to stick with Randal Kolo Muani and not end his loan deal.

Romano Reveals Details On Duran Offer

Romano provided more insight into the offer:

“He was presented to Tottenham as a last-minute option, but the club decided against it.

“This opportunity arose because some in the industry believed Tottenham might end Kolo Muani’s loan to allow him to move to Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain.

“But Tottenham opted to continue with Kolo Muani, who has started the last two matches, thus deciding to keep faith in the player and decline the chance to sign Duran, who was eager for the move.”

Given Spurs’ injuries, was declining the offer the right choice, or did they make a mistake?
