Tottenham seeks new striker to vie with Dominic Solanke next season
Tottenham faces a serious risk of relegation from the Premier League as they fight to maintain their top-flight status. Currently, the team is in the lower half of the table, having secured only two victories in their last 17 league matches. This disappointing performance led to the dismissal of Thomas Frank, who was replaced by Igor Tudor on an interim basis.
Despite the coaching change, significant issues in the squad require attention this summer. A key concern is the lack of competition for the striker position. Dominic Solanke has emerged as the first-choice forward following his return from an ankle injury, scoring four goals in his last eight matches.
Nevertheless, Solanke is the only reliable goal-scorer on the team. His partner Richarlison remains out due to a hamstring injury sustained during the FA Cup match against Aston Villa in January. Meanwhile, loan player Randal Kolo Muani has struggled since joining from PSG, still waiting to score his first Premier League goal despite disappointing performances.
Tottenham interested in signing Al-Hilal’s Darwin Nunez this summer
Given these concerns, Tottenham is looking for a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. With Randal Kolo Muani returning to PSG and Richarlison potentially leaving, the club needs to find a replacement who can challenge Solanke for a starting position.
According to TEAMtalk, Spurs are keeping an eye on Darwin Nunez, a forward from Al-Hilal. The Uruguayan has fallen down the pecking order after Karim Benzema’s arrival at the Saudi club, limiting his playing time. He has also been excluded from Al-Hilal’s Pro League and Cup squad due to foreign player restrictions.
However, securing Nunez’s signature may not be easy. Newcastle United is also interested in him as they seek to enhance their attacking options. Another obstacle is Nunez’s salary demands, reportedly around £400,000 a week at Al-Hilal, making it difficult for many English clubs to meet such expectations without a significant pay cut.
A promising option for Tottenham?
Signing Darwin Nunez could be a beneficial move for Tottenham. He has Premier League experience from his time at Liverpool, contributing to their league title win. Known for his work rate and physical skills, he would offer strong competition for Solanke and could also play in wider roles if necessary.
Nunez is approaching his prime years, and a return to the Premier League could showcase his best form. He would add depth to Tottenham’s attack, allowing for a more varied approach with his technical skills and smart runs. Whether Nunez will join Spurs remains uncertain. Time will tell.
