Ex-Aston Villa chief thinks Tottenham will have to rebuild their squad if they suffer relegation.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League season has been challenging, as they currently sit 16th in the standings, just above the relegation zone. Interim manager Igor Tudor is tasked with keeping the team in the league.
The risk of Spurs facing relegation for the first time in their history is looming. A league victory since 2026 remains elusive, and Tudor is yet to make a significant impact since joining the club last month.
The Croatian coach has a history of helping struggling teams, but his appointment has not eased concerns among supporters. Fans hope he can demonstrate his ability to turn things around in the coming months.
Tottenham advised to rebuild their squad after a disastrous domestic campaign
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness believes that if Tottenham is relegated, they will experience a significant player turnover. Dropping to the Championship could create financial challenges, making it hard to return to the Premier League quickly.
“You will need to rebuild your squad to succeed in the Championship, as many Premier League players might not be effective there due to the demanding schedule and style of play,” Keith Wyness shared on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
“The Championship is a long and tough battle, requiring players with the right mindset and quality. Spurs would need to reorganize but with a tighter budget.”
“While parachute payments help for one or two seasons, they are not a long-term solution. Fortunately, the club has additional revenue from the stadium.”
“Overall, it’s a daunting situation, and huge player reductions would be necessary to maintain expenses and build a competitive team.”
The possibility of relegation is alarming for everyone associated with Spurs. Wyness is correct in suggesting that if they go down, returning to the Premier League might be difficult, especially given the management decisions made during the last transfer window. Many pressing squad needs were left unaddressed, and despite heavy spending in summer, several new signings have not performed well.
As North Londoners struggle, Tudor needs to devise a strategy quickly to lift his team out of the current predicament.
