Troy Deeney thinks Marcus Rashford faced a tough reality check after joining Barcelona.

The former Premier League striker pointed out that playing for the Spanish club is very different from Rashford’s previous experiences.

Deeney remarked that at Barcelona, reputation alone does not meet the high expectations.

Troy Deeney discusses Rashford’s experience at Barcelona

The Sun reported Deeney’s belief that Rashford quickly understood the intense atmosphere at Barcelona.

“Leaving a club where he was a star, the message at Barcelona would be clear: ‘We don’t care about Marcus Rashford; we had Lionel Messi here recently,’” Deeney explained.

He added: “They don’t care about his personal life – he has to prove he belongs at that club.”

Deeney emphasized that Barcelona’s history of great players sets very high expectations for newcomers.

With legends like Messi shaping modern times at Camp Nou, new players must earn their spot rather than depend on past success. This, Deeney pointed out, pushes players to demonstrate their worth quickly.

Troy Deeney on Barcelona’s standards for Rashford

Deeney believes the culture at Barcelona offers players a straightforward decision on how to proceed.

“It shows you cannot have it your way… You adapt to Barcelona or you won’t play. They have made it clear to Rashford how things operate,” he said.

“If he aligns with their approach, success will follow – he’ll play for Barcelona, score goals, and join the England national team for the World Cup,” Deeney concluded.

According to Deeney, meeting these expectations is part of what makes Barcelona one of the toughest clubs to play for.

Players who thrive there often embrace the structure and pressures that come with the responsibility of representing the team. Rashford’s task now is to show he can succeed in that challenging environment.
