Manchester United‘s season has been challenging, marked by no participation in UEFA competitions and quick exits from domestic cups as the campaign nears its end.
The team, which finished 15th in the Premier League last year, started this season with higher hopes due to new signings like Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha, strengthening their attacking options.
However, they faced a tough start with a loss to Arsenal and a disappointing defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, setting a negative tone for the season.
Subsequent losses to Manchester City and Brentford further affected morale, leading to Ruben Amorim’s departure after a draw against Leeds United in early January.
Under Michael Carrick’s management, the team has improved, securing six wins from eight matches that have pushed them towards the top four in the Premier League.
Despite this progress, Manchester United’s men’s team has taken a hit in the UEFA club rankings, dropping from 19th to 20th, with FC Porto moving ahead of them.
The team’s lack of involvement in European competitions, following their defeat to Tottenham in last season’s Europa League final, has resulted in no points on the UEFA coefficient table.
Addtionally, Porto’s advancement to the Round of 16 in the Europa League has allowed them to gain enough points to surpass Manchester United.
This drop in ranking presents a setback for the team in their aim for sustained success on the European stage.
However, if they qualify for a European competition, United could work their way back up the rankings ahead of clubs like Porto.
