Michael Carrick faced his first setback as Manchester United‘s manager in his second term with a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on March 4. His team has not played since that match.

The Red Devils have had a sparse schedule recently after being eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Earlier in the season, they were also surprisingly knocked out of the League Cup by Grimsby Town from League Two, losing in a penalty shootout.

As a result, fans are hoping for a top-four finish this season.

It is uncertain if Carrick’s team can maintain their third-place position, as they are tied on points with Aston Villa. However, they hold an advantageous position.

The lack of matches has given players like Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, and Kobbie Mainoo a ten-day break from the defeat against Newcastle leading up to the game against Villa.

With this extended gap, the players are likely keen to return, especially since Unai Emery’s side played Lille in the Europa League on Thursday.

In addition to preparing for the upcoming match, Carrick’s team also welcomed UFC champion Charles Oliveira to Carrington.

Oliveira recently won the BMF title against Max Holloway at UFC 326 in Las Vegas, showcasing his superior grappling skills and earning a unanimous decision.

Shortly after, Oliveira, who has been seen with Cunha and Fernandes, visited Manchester.
