Aston Villa manager Unai Emery shared his thoughts in a straight-to-the-point interview with BBC Sport following the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. He acknowledged that his team struggled to control the match during a chaotic second half, where Bournemouth took the initiative and forced Villa into a defensive position.
Emery noted that Matty Cash had a chance to secure a late victory, but overall, Bournemouth appeared more threatening and spent more time in Villa’s penalty area. Due to this, he regarded the draw as a positive outcome, recognizing that Villa was fortunate to leave with a point given the pressure they faced late in the match.
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to BBC Sport: “In the second half, we couldn’t play how we wanted; they pushed us. They were in our box more than we would have liked. We aimed to gain some momentum. We had one chance with Matty Cash, but they created more. It’s a very good point.”
“We defended well. It’s important to practice defending throw-ins and corners. There were many challenges. We need to be ready to fight.”
