U.S. men’s national team striker Patrick Agyemang will not participate in this summer’s World Cup due to an Achilles injury.
Agyemang, 25, suffered the injury on Monday while playing for Derby County against Stoke City in England. He fell awkwardly after jumping to contest a ball and was taken off on a stretcher in the 41st minute during a 2-0 victory.
“Everyone at Derby County supports Patrick during this tough time and will continue to do so,” the team stated in a news release on Tuesday.
“Due to this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup. At this moment, it is difficult to predict his recovery timeline.”
Agyemang participated in both USMNT friendlies last month, scoring a goal in the match against Belgium, despite losses to Portugal and Belgium. He has scored six goals in 14 appearances for the U.S. since his debut in January 2025.
His absence is a setback for coach Mauricio Pochettino, who needs to finalize the roster by May 30. The U.S. will play its first group match on June 12 in Inglewood, California, against Paraguay.
Agyemang will also miss the final five regular-season matches for Derby County, which is currently two spots away from the playoffs in England’s second tier.
